Torture
Any support for, agreement with or sympathy for those who commit torturous acts gives societies a green light on barbarous behavior. This, in turn, would surely lead to more brutal behavior by police and other law enforcement officials. It will force the innocent to lie to avoid abuse and guarantee punishment whether a suspect is guilty or not. It’s globally rejected and morally deplorable, period.
In all honesty I’m not surprised AmeriKKKa is the modern world’s last bastion for torture. We justify it by glancing over details. We say, “well whatever was done, [enter potential tragedy here] was avoided”. We say the “slippery slope” argument is a bunch of crap when there’s really no other situation in which it’s more applicable and accurate. We regularly sanction the death penalty and then tell ourselves that if something like government sanctioned killing can be OK then we’re really just weighing the risk of said potential tragedy against the temporary discomfort of an alleged criminal and that’s not really so bad… is it?
Yes. Yes it is…
